Mickey recently celebrated his 90th birthday this past fall (can you believe that he’s been around for nearly a hundred years?). To commemorate the occasion, Disney released a number of exclusive items from fleece pajamas to high-end watches—they even did a collaboration with Campbell Soup!
Speaking of food, they also came out with these super cute Mickey Mouse Oreo cookies. To be honest, I had no idea that these even existed until I saw them at the supermarket one day. Oreo cookies? With Mickey’s face on it? I’m sold.
1. First Impressions
The first thing that grabbed my attention was the packaging. Not only was it cute with several Mickeys, but there was confetti all over the wrapping. At the time, it took me a while to realize that it was to celebrate his 90th birthday. Ah, birthday cake flavored Oreos—it all made sense!
From there, my eyes fixated on the picture of the cookie—it was Mickey wearing a party hat. I knew right then and there that I had to buy them.
2. Opening the Packaging
I hadn’t eaten Oreos in a while so I almost missed the resealable opening (I was ready to cut it open with a pair of scissors). Peeling it open, I was greeted by the smell of marvellous sweetness. Looking at the cookies, I noticed that there were little specks of color in the creme filling.
Wanting to know the different designs (the packaging said that there were “three fun Mickey designs”), I grabbed three from the middle row. Flipping them over, all of them had different patterns—there was Mickey with the party hat, a party popper, and a “90” for his 90th anniversary.
To tell you the truth, I was actually expecting three different Mickey designs (you know, with Mickey on them). Perhaps they weren’t able to come up with other poses that would fit on the cookie? No biggie though, the other patterns are cute in their own way. My favorite is definitely Mickey with the party hat—there are even little stars around him!
In contrast, the “90” pattern is quite simplistic. Having said that, there are tiny Mickeys around the number, which is cute. In case you’re curious, the other side simply has “Oreo” written on it.
As you can see, the party popper design also features several Mickey heads.
3. The Mickey Mouse Oreo Taste Test
Ever eaten a birthday cake Oreo? That’s exactly what this tastes like. After all, the creme filling is the same; it’s just the design that’s different. Personally, I felt that it tasted like sweet cookie dough. While yummy, it did taste a bit artificial; it’s also sweeter than the traditional Oreo (which may be good or bad, depending on your preference). For me, I found the sweetness to be a little overwhelming.
4. Final Thoughts on the Mickey Mouse Oreo Cookies
Given how sweet they are, I wouldn’t be able to eat more than one in one go. If you have a sweet tooth, however, this might be right down your alley. In terms of price, these Mickey Oreos are a bit more expensive than the regular ones (this pack cost me around $7). Would I buy them again? Probably not—that’s only because I prefer savory snacks, though.
Considering their price, you might be better off getting the non-Mickey ones if you’re craving birthday cake Oreos. If, however, you want to celebrate Mickey’s 90th birthday by indulging yourself in cute cookies, this is what you want.
